Teacher Leaders, a nationwide programme run by the Ministry of Education in partnership with Yad Hanadiv, recently marked a decade of empowering teachers and advancing the quality of teaching in Israel.
The initiative is founded on the belief that improving education begins with teachers themselves. At its heart are school-based professional learning communities, in which teachers reflect on classroom practice together, learn from one another, share effective approaches, and deepen their expertise in order to advance teaching and learning. Since its inception, Teacher Leaders has expanded across Israel and some 15,000 teachers are currently taking part.
A conference celebrating the programme’s 10th anniversary highlighted its contribution to strengthening teachers’ pedagogical leadership, fostering a culture of collaborative learning, and supporting ongoing improvement in schools. It also recognized the many teachers, educators and partners whose commitment has shaped the initiative over the years.
