Driving innovation and impact through academic excellence

Thirty-three researchers from across a broad range of disciplines – including the Humanities, Social Sciences and Exact Sciences, as well as Physician-Researchers – have been awarded Rothschild Fellowships for 2026–27. Over the coming months, they will begin postdoctoral placements at leading institutions worldwide. Since 1979, the Rothschild Fellowships have supported early-career researchers of outstanding academic merit and potential, enabling them to broaden their work, build international collaborations and acquire new knowledge and skills before returning to Israel as leaders in their fields.

Last winter saw the first calls for applications to the Postdoctoral Fellows and Sabbatical Scholars Programmes run by Kalaniyot, which promotes research partnerships between Israeli scholars and leading universities in the US. The programmes are designed to enable Israeli researchers to extend their academic work internationally, develop long-term collaborations and strengthen ties between Israeli academia and major research institutions abroad. As part of these programmes, 28 early-career researchers will undertake postdoctoral studies, while 11 senior researchers will spend the coming academic year as visiting scholars at six academic institutions.
