The first years of life profoundly shape children’s development, health and well-being. The Early Childhood Programme continues to promote systemic change that connects knowledge, policy and practice. A year on from its launch, the 1,000 Days Collective Impact initiative has brought together more than 500 partners from government, academia, civil society, philanthropy and the business sector around a shared agenda for early childhood. Common goals have been defined, policy recommendations developed, and professional working groups established.
In parallel, Resheet – an organisation operating at the intersection of research and practice – has expanded its reach through several initiatives. Among them is a literacy network dedicated to promoting language development and literacy from birth, which brings together some 280 professionals from local authorities, government ministries, civil society organisations, academia and foundations. The network serves as a platform for sharing knowledge, advancing systemic solutions, and shaping evidence-based national policy.
In addition, a new model for working effectively with local authorities has been developed. Local authorities have been identified as a critical infrastructure for promoting early childhood development and narrowing gaps. Grounded in research, evaluation and data, the model is designed to build the capacity of local authorities to take responsibility for all young children within their jurisdiction.
