Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)
Promoting social mobility through social and emotional learning
About the Initiative
Launched in 2021, the SEL initiative ‘Orcha’ aims to strengthen the social and emotional skills of children and young people in Israel. It draws on research showing that the ability to manage emotions, thoughts and behaviours is a key factor in success at school, in social settings and employment – and in promoting social mobility.
SEL works in partnership with six local authorities (Nahariya, Maghar, Baqa al-Gharbiyye, Bnei Brak, Ganei Tikva and the Eshkol Regional Council), as well as with universities and Third Sector organisations. Each partnership develops and implements data-informed programmes, supported by ongoing learning and evaluation. The initiative’s headquarters supports the development of knowledge and professional capacity to advance social and emotional learning across education settings in Israel.
