Biomedical Research
Advancing biomedical research to improve human health and strengthen Israel’s position at the forefront of global biomedical science
About the Initiative
The Academic Excellence Programme promotes biomedical research in Israel focused on human health by fostering outstanding interdisciplinary research, strengthening ties between universities and hospitals, and advancing the role of Physician-Researchers within Israel’s healthcare system. These efforts are carried out primarily through the MAVRI initiative, launched in 2023 in partnership with the Planning and Budgeting Committee of the Council for Higher Education (VATAT), Klarman Family Foundation and Israel Science Foundation, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the Scientific Council of the Israeli Medical Association.
MAVRI strengthens Israel’s biomedical research infrastructure, encourages collaboration between researchers and clinicians, and promotes career pathways for Physician-Researchers. A precursor was the Partnership for Precision Medicine Research (IPMP), launched in 2018, which supported medical research and the development of research infrastructure in computational medicine.
