Rothschild Prize

Mordechai Heiblum
Condensed Matter Physics | 2009
Rothschild Prize in Physical Sciences

Professor Mordechai (Moty) Heiblum is an international authority on experimental condensed matter physics, as demonstrated by his pioneering research and outstanding achievements in experimental quantum physics, and in particular, by his work on electron quantum phase, quantum noise measurements and electron interferometry. While building and heading the Braun Center for Submicron Research at the Weizmann Institute, he contributed to elevating experimental nano-scale physics in Israel to new heights, setting world-class standards. The Rothschild Prize  was awarded to Prof. Heiblum for his imaginative use of electron interferometry, the study of entanglement and controlled decoherence, and for the detection and confirmation of fractional charges of quasiparticles in the Fractional Quantum Hall Effect, while using delicate quantum noise measurements.
