Joseph Klafter
Physical Chemistry | 2004
Rothschild Prize in Chemical Sciences

Professor Joseph Klafter is a leading theoretical chemist known worldwide for his seminal contributions to the important research field of molecular-scale processes in complex systems, exploring the fundamental concept of anomalous transport and related chemical reactions, and of molecular motions in restricted geometries. His work in the area of physical chemistry led to the understanding of processes that govern the dynamics of molecules, nanoparticles and atomic scale machines. Professor Klafter's fundamental work introducing Levy walks generalized the concept of Brownian motion to include anomalous diffusion, and has had a profound influence on a broad range of areas such as fluid dynamics, transport in nonlinear systems and biological processes. His research provided a breakthrough in the understanding of chemical and physical properties of molecules in condensed phases.
