Dr. Ben-Yosef completed his dissertation entitled Technology and Social Process: Oscillations in Iron Age Copper Production and Power in Southern Jordan in 2010, at the University of California, San Diego. Erez plans to use the three-year fellowship to conduct a new excavation in the Timna Region of southern Israel and address questions related to the history of copper production technology and the introduction of iron, as well as historical issues concerning desert societies in the 13th to 9thc. BCE.
