The
National Library of Israel collects, preserves, disseminates and imparts treasures, heritage and knowledge which reflect the diverse cultural, geographic and historical
tapestry of the Land of Israel, the State of Israel and the Jewish people. Yad Hanadiv, in cooperation with the Government of Israel, has made a commitment to assist in a renewal of the National Library that will enable it to fulfil its mission in the 21st century. Through making treasures of the Jewish people, Israel and Islam available online and construction of a new building [Hebrew], the Library’s holdings will become accessible to communities of scholars and to people of all nations and religions. The National Library will fulfil its role as a central research facility and as a hub of cultural and educational activity and will provide a framework and platforms for discourse on Israeli culture, scholarly interaction and possible regional cooperation.
The official launch of the National Library of Israel renewal project took place in March 2011, in the presence of the President of Israel Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Education Minister Gideon Sa'ar and Lord Rothschild.
